Salmon fishing still very good

The salmon fishing season in Iceland has been very good so far with enormous grilse runs with most rivers already well over the final catch rates from last year. The Huseyjarkvisl River is now up to 211 salmon landed and the fishing is very good at the moment with sea liced fish still being caught. The Vatnsdalsa River is now at 670 salmon landed (total in 2014 was 765) and fish are still running. The Thvera River is at over 1.100 fish landed but I’ve not heard from Kjarra where the fishing has been tough so far.

The fish seem to be running late this year and the grilse to salmon ratio is very high in favour of the grilse. We all know what that could mean… a big salmon year in 2016. The early season salmon fishing should be fantastic with big runs of MSW’s coming in.

A good year means high demand for the following year so my advice is to book your salmon fishing in Iceland early for the 2016 season. Huseyjarkvisl is already sold out for 2016 but we have a waiting list so let us know if you are interested in fishing the Huseyjarkvisl in 2016.

We have one rod available for a sea trout / salmon combo in September. Further details here: https://www.icelandangling.com/packaged-fishing-holidays

The sea trout are already running and the river is absolutely full of salmon. The Vididalsa has had a great year for salmon and sea trout are also already running there.
