Angling iQ - new app for anglers

Written by Stjani. Posted in News.

ellen husoThe reason I have not written anything here in almost a month is that when the fishing season ended I tried to get to grips with the wave of inquiries for the 2016 fishing season in Iceland as well as be involved with the release of a new social media app for anglers called Angling iQ.

Now the app has been released and the work is well underway going through the e-mails. This has been the fourth best salmon fishing year in Iceland and what a season it has been. Huseyjarkvisl River smashed it's old record with 410 salmon landed when the salmon beats closed but I know there have been some salmon landed since then. The sea trout fishing seemed to be a bit slow but that may also be because there were just so many salmon in the river and the weather was a little too nice for sea trout fishing in September.

We did catch some big ones and recently a 91 cm sea trout was landed as well as an 87 cm colored fish (pictured). The Huseyjarkvisl is now sold out in July and August in 2016 but we may have some dates available in September.

Soon I will post all available fishing we will have for the 2016 season and send out a newsletter as well. In the meantime, get Angling iQ on your smartphone and follow me in the app to see some pictures from this season. My username is @stjaniben.

I am still working on setting up packaged trips and I hope to post something soon.

Busy season salmon fishing in Iceland

Written by Stjani. Posted in News.

huso salmon 2015 2It's now been over a month since I sat down and posted something. I've been very busy guiding all over the country as well as working with a start up company here in Iceland called Angling iQ. We are making a social network for anglers worldwide to log and share their catches in an easy way. Check us out on Facebook and visit our website to sign up to be a part of the Beta program.

Now to some fishing news. It's been an amazing season for salmon fishing in Iceland with numerous rivers setting new records for catch rates. It started off slowly but picked up as the season progressed. It was a big grilse year and we all know what that means... right? Grilse year followed by a year of strong runs of salmon.

The Huseyjarkvisl River is one of those rivers all ready on a new record, breaking the recordd set in 2013. Currently we are over 370 salmon landed and now the sea trout are running again. The Langa has been on fire this year with well over 2.000 salmon landed. Recently some clients of ours were fishing and they landed 20 salmon on 2 rods in 3 days. In September!

The Thvera - Kjarra have also been very good this year with the final catch rates at 2.364 salmon landed. Haukadalsa numbers I've yet to have but on September 3. the number was already at 556 and counting. The Nordura ended up with 2.886 salmon landed and the Laxa in Leirarsveit is currently at 991 salmon with a few days remaining of the season there.

Naturally this means inquiries are already in full swing for the 2016 season and already the Huseyjarkvisl is sold out in July with only a faint possibility for rods in August and September. We have aquired some early season fishing on the River Kjarra (part of Thvera - Kjarra system) for some big fresh fish in a wilderness setting. Please contact me for details on that trip.

So send me your inquiries for the 2016 fishing season in Iceland soon so I can start working on tailor making a fishing trip of a lifetime to Iceland. Also don't forget to check out the Angling iQ app, sign up for Beta, install the app and follow me @stjaniben.
