Freshwater species of sportfish
Iceland only has six different species of freshwater fish and only three of them are considered sportfish. These are the brown trout, the arctic char and the Atlantic salmon. Additionally we have sea run brown trout and arctic char which we simply call sea trout and sea char. These three other species of fish are the eel and two species of stickleback. The occasional eel is caught on the rod but it is rare and perhaps not a preferred option.
Below and to your left you will find links to some basic information on these freshwater species.
